In addition to the nice scenery around me, there was this particular dessert shop that caught my eye. As Easter was round the corner at that time, almost everywhere I went in Spain had lovely displays of chocolate and the likes. When I saw these on display, I just had to try something from this place.
I was also told that we should try some Yemas (egg yolks in Spanish). Since we were running out of time as the bus was coming to pick us up, I decided to get some without really knowing what it was. I tried asking what it really was but the shop keeper and I had some problem communicating. Either way, I was the duck and she was the chicken or vice versa. I mean the language, not the profession! Anyway, I got the gist of it that it was a type of candy; egg yolk mixed with sugar! Let's just say that it's an acquired taste, you'll love this is you love egg yolks. For me, it was just average and a bit too "yolky" and sweet.
The next day, we had a free day in Madrid and we went around the city on foot. We did most of our shopping at El Corte Ingles departmental store, Zara and souvenir items off the stalls on the side street.
A unique looking building in the city, just opposite one of the many El Corte Ingles in Madrid
We stopped by this lovely place for coffee, located smack in the middle of a street. Very French looking, I had this urge to practice my rusty French language, speaking to myself. Ha ha ha...Loved this cafe.

Dear WMW,
Bring some order to this blog. Yes. I decided to stop commenting on your previous post. 1) felt deep concern for other blogger friends, so I have been spending time at their blogs. 2) I was having too much fun.
Egg yolk with sugar? I love egg yolks in mooncake or egg yolks in a rice dumpling but egg yolks by itself, I am not so sure.
p/s Looking forward to reading Tapas at midnight.
Wah, you are still not done with Spain...LOL. I want to see midnight tapas, quick quick, the real ones...
CatsnDogs : Actually took a lot of photos...more than 1500 shots on my two weeks there, but what I'll post are the chosen ones. Can bring thumbdrive and show you the pics if you want.
mama bok : Yeah, so cute. Leaving a hole in the center.
Jason : Hee hee...you're welcome.
lee ping : The other post is still visible on the main page...if you want you can still comment! Ha ha ha....
RM : Yalah...some more, Malacca trip too. Ha ha...Stay tuned!

The magazine kiosk looks a collage art to me.
Yemas, huh? Looks delicious. I love egg yolk, although too much can be rather unhealthy. Sigh.
was zooming on the magazines... cant find any "educational" ones...
:P
wmw, lovely photos. These yemas, are they the really rich sugary stuff?
By the way, I saw your comment/tips on Lee Ping's blog. May I ask what camera you have and I would appreciate any tips you may have. I thought it was interesting about three and not two rolls. How would you arrange three rolls?
joe : You leaving Malaysia? When? Precious Pea is going to Melbourne, you can also go there and start your own mini makan club! hehe
wonda : Oh yeah, it does, doesn't it? :o)
lyrical lemongrass : These egg yolks are sugary sweet though...
jackson : Like I said, you'll like it only if you like egg yolks. Guess you don't...yeah, that photo is cute.
hengster : Ha ha ha...And you say it's not on men's mind ALL the time? ha ha ha...
dr ve thru : Yeah, the yemas are rich sugary stuff alright. I'm not using a high tech camera...just a simple cheap Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ3 camera (from the States). http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/lz3.html
Check out this link for details (it has several pages of info). As for the swiss rolls, I would stack two at the bottom and one on top in the center along with finding a good angle. It gives more balance to the photo.
I have thought about it and was tempted but I resist. I have to prepare for Church now. It is Sunday morning here. I have to confess my sins. :)
I love the pic of the magazine kiosk, so colourful and ermm...congested?
Ooohh...Tapas! Quick quick quick!

tummythoz : Dunno wor. Halfway only? LOL...
Big Boys Oven : We had to be very careful of our belongings....nothing happened to my group but heard stories of pickpocketing to some other folks. But the city is too beautiful to let such things deter us from visiting it.
boo_licious : If you haven't been there, I believe I would categorise Spain as a country that one MUST visit at one point in their life. So, do go and book that ticket :o)
