Between 8am - 11am every Mon-Fri, Hing Lung dishes out breakfast specials. For USD3.75, one can choose from the range of porridge and noodles from the breakfast menu. We decided to order a bowl of Beef Stew Vermicelli (rice noodle) to share the rather large bowl of noodles ...
Look at the amount of beef stew and noodles...right to the brim! How's that for USD3.75? Value for money? Well, it would have been good if ALL of the beef stew were tender. A quarter of it was tough to chew on. I do like the texture of the vermicelli and the soup which is clear and sweet. Note : Stick to the porridge for a more satisfying breakfast unless Hing Lung can assure me that the whole serving of beef stew is totally tender!
Chinese crullers in the making...
And since we shared, we added another dollar for the USD4.75 special which includes a choice of a simple bean sprout chow mien (fried noodles) and Chinese crullers or Steamed rice flour with dried shrimps and Chinese crullers PLUS a choice of hot coffee or Hong Kong style milk tea.
Now, most of you would know that I love Chee Cheong Fun (CCF). I have an ongoing love affair with my own McSteamy...in this case, steamed rice flour, hahahah! So, we opted for the steamed rice flour with dried shrimps and Chinese crullers. The moment I bit into this version of CCF, I was reminded of the reason why I must always drop by Hing Lung Restaurant whenever I'm in San Francisco. Forget about the rest, just remember to order this simple and unassuming looking (with generous amount of dried shrimps!) CCF. I change my mind, it's not unassuming, it's gorgeous! It's really delicious and so aromatic; dipped into a bit of sweet sauce on the side, it's just heavenly for CCF lovers. I have not been able to find a similar version to Hing Lung's elsewhere, in USA and back in Malaysia! Sob! Sob!...

Now, can someone point me to the direction of some great tasting CCF (and/or one that looks like this???) ...

I like CCF too. But maybe not as much as you do, lol! I find the CCF in Ipoh Parade's food court nice and decent. It goes well with any sauce be it curry or just plain ol' soy sauce. I love curry though! =)
Aiyo so cheap one ah ! Like behind SS1! Fantastic ! We bring you to the best CCF soon
new template looks good! where did you get it from?
i'd do anything for porridge in the morning, but flying to SF won't be one of them =) unless i make it myself it'll be the quaker oat variety porridge for breakfast.
hey you've been to the teochew porridge place next door to pudu prison right? i used to frequent it for midnight snacks.
K : Hi there! Haha...you can tell that how much I love CCF, eh?
