I'm way behind editing my photos....and while I'm not done with Vegas and Canada, Taiwan and now Melbourne, there are still the road trips that I did to Sitiawan and Penang! Oh well, from Vegas - I shall now take you all back to our shores, Sitiawan, where my first stop over was at the famous Yee Si at Kampung Koh. (Oh, a word of thanks goes out to Charles & family for extending their wonderful hospitality and to Glorious Jade, WWS and Ash for being hand models and putting up with all that waiting while I snapped away at all that food).
Stopping over to grab some paus, we found out that we had to wait a while for the "thousand layer" peanut pau as we were too early (we arrived at 2pm). We actually went off and came back again to pick up our orders slightly after 3pm. Luckily we placed our orders earlier, it was almost sold out by the time we got there the second time round. Check out the scene at the side lane....

Of course, we got other varieties...here's the Kaya Pau. This took 3rd spot on our list. It was normal fare to us as we found the filling average tasting.
The Sang Yuk Pau (Meat Bun). With generous juicy filling, we enjoyed this savoury pau, taking 1st spot of the three varieties.
The Peanut Pau also had generous crushed peanut filling which was fragrant and had just the right level of sweetness. 2nd Place :o)
Poor Thousand Layer Peanut Pau - we couldn't eat it immediately as we were full. By the time, we took it home, it was squashed! Pau "attacked" indeed! Hahaha.... It still tasted good, given the fact that we ate it at room temperature. Therefore, given its condition, it wouldn't have been fair to rate it with the others. Hence, no position. Hahaha.....

I've heard of rival drivers competing for pole position, but this is a first - competing for "pau" position! :D
I've only tried the peanut one as it was what we managed to get one day! Loved it. I always think Sitiawan is a place for snacks vs real food since I find their Foochow food too watered down.

Hi happen to chance upon your blog while looking for the "thousand layer pau" recipe.....that's my grandfather's shop!!! Am trying it out now...steaming it at the moment. I'm sure it's not as good as my uncle's but can do for now lah!!! Actually the special pau is called the "Seven Layer Pau" Missing all the sitiawan delicacies...sigh...
