Pomelo Salad with Chicken, Shrimp & Cashew Nuts (RM15). Apparently pomelo from Thailand is used for this dish as it's sweeter compared to the local ones. Tangy and sourish, I rather enjoyed this salad.
Cat Fish Mango Salad (RM22). Having eaten similar Cat Fish Salad in Thailand itself, I've always wondered why the cat fish salad comes so fine and crispy. Not that I'm complaining, it makes it a fish dish that I would eat but on the other hand I can't tell it's catfish.
Hard-boiled Eggs Wrapped in Fish Cake (RM13). This was such a cute looking dish (it's a specialty of Funky Villa) and another fish dish I would eat. Fish cake that's fried and wrapped over the hard boiled egg with my favourite garnishing makes this a winner.
The next several pics are part of the Set Lunches ranging from RM9.90 to RM17.90 which is available daily during lunch hour from 12pm -3pm. Each set consists of a starter, main and a Lemongrass drink which is refillable.
Shredded Green Mango Salad with Dry Shrimp & Coconut Flakes, Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken (RM 9.90). A fave order of most folks, this typical Thai style fried rice was fragrant and had wok hei (cooked over a high flame).
Golden Prawn Pan Cake & Seafood Tom Yum Noodle - RM15.90
Vegetable Spring Rolls, Green Curry Chicken & Steam Rice - RM 11.90
Pomelo Salad, Thai Herb Fried Rice with Seafood - RM 13.90
Pad Thai Seafood Noodle, served with Tom Yam Gung (not in this pic) - RM 17.90. I have always love Pad Thai and enjoyed this best of the five sets.
Tom Yum Gung RM23 was pretty standard and not spicy enough for me! :o)
Tom Kha Seafood - RM22 was rather lovely. Slightly sourish, this coconut milk based soup was surprisingly pleasing on the palate.
Thai Steam Otak Otak in Coconut -RM23 (also known as Homok). Generous chunks of fish fillets are steamed in a hollowed coconut with basil and red curry spices, making this one dish with "oomph".
Thai Herbs Minced Chicken - RM12.00. Recommended more as a snack to go with beer, this is one crispy and flavourful minced chicken dish
Stir fried squid in salted egg yolk - RM17.00. This came across as an ordinary stir fried squid dish to me. I guess I prefer to bite into physical bits of salted egg rather than just having salted egg yolk gravy :o).
DESSERTS! - The Twin Dessert Special - RM16.90
Mango Sticky Rice (left) and Red Rubies (right). I enjoyed the dollop of vanilla ice cream that is served together with the water chestnuts and jackfruit. It made the Red Rubies creamier without being too rich.
In the middle, you have Ginkgo Nut in coconut (RM7.90) which came across as a Plain Jane against the Red Rubies.
To end the gathering, we had a Giant Cocktail - 750ml Funky Rita (RM55)....shared by all 10 of us - KBCG, Chris & Christine, Jason, Simon, Ai Wei, Wen Ching & Squall
Cheers! Here's to days where we will never be hungry! ;o)
