Bulgogi Brothers, Oppa Korean Style @ Paradigm Mall

Chaswood Resources Holdings Limited recently added Bulgogi Brothers to its list of brands with its launch in Paradigm Mall.

Established since 2006, Bulgogi Brothers is a popular casual dining restaurant in Korea and is one of Korea's renowned restaurant chain.  Bulgogi Brothers first outlet in Korea is located in Gangnam; the same place in the title name of the most recent viral video, "Oppa Gangnam Style" as performed by PSY.  Bulgogi Brothers features the representative Korean food - the fire meat - BULGOGI, hence its name.  While I was not involved in any parody video of Gangnam Style (unfortunately), I was invited for a food tasting session of selected dishes just before its opening.  Lots of delicious photos ahead!

Starters - Sweet Corn, Sweet Potatoes, Sugar Snap Peas

Banchan - side dishes
Banchan - I especially enjoyed the sweet pumpkin paste (middle left) and the radish (top right)

Yukhoe - Raw Beef
Yukhoe (RM45.90) - julienned raw beef marinated in a mixture of chillies, pears and cucumber.  I absolutely love this dish, though raw, the beef had a rather firm texture to it and tasted sweet with the mixture of the sweet diced pears. Best eaten immediately when served (it's a cold dish, not as good if it drops to room temperature).

Haemul Pajeon - Korean pancake
Haemul Pajeon (RM27.90)- Korean style pancake with seafood and green onions
I found Bulgogi Brothers' pancake a tad thick and therefore lack the crisp.  Average fare to me ...

Sauce for Haemul Pajeon
The sauce for the Haemul Pajeon was lovely though, a tangy onion dip!

Bulgogi Brothers Special
Then we have the Bulgogi Brothers Special (RM81.90 for 400g, RM121.90 for 600g) a combination of ...
Bulgogi Brothers Special - Gwangyang
Gwangyang Bulgogi - Seasoned beef slices prepared according to the style in the southern provinces in Korea.
Bulgogi Brothers Special - Unyang
Unyang Bulgogi - sliced beef hand pressed into heartshaped patties. Note : The meat has been marinated for a few days!

Each style is cooked and served separately at your table ...
Cooking Unyang

Unyang - Heart Shaped Beef

Bulgogi Brothers Special - Gwangyang

Bulgogi Brothers Special - Gwangyang
Both styles were delicious and if I have to pick a winner of the two, I would go for Unyang (heartshaped beef).  It was more flavourful of the two, given the fact that it has been marinated longer than the seasoned Gwangyang.  Both had a great smoky taste from the grilling session.  They were cooked just about right and still retained its moisture.

Hobak Juk - Pumpkin Soup
We were given a cup of Pumpkin soup to try at this point.  Its thick consistency, sweet and flavourful taste made this a favourite of mine too (especially since I love pumpkin dishes).

Bulgogi Bibimbap

Bulgogi Bibimbap
Next on the list - Bulgogi Bibimbap (RM29.90).  One of the best Bibimbap I've eaten.  The flavours were spot on, the combination of beef and vegetables; all mixed with the rice and special spicy saucy.  I couldn't get enough of it!
Janchi Guksu - Party Noodles

Janchi Guksu - Party Noodles
Janchi Guksu (RM17.90) - Known as the "party noodles" in Korea, served in seafood broth and garnished with lots of vegetables.

Haemul Doenjang Jjigae - Seafood soybean stew

Haemul Doenjang Jjigae - Seafood soybean stew
Haemul Doenjang Jjigae (RM26.90) - slow cooked doenjang broth (soybean stew), served with shrimps, soft shell crab, mussels and vegetables.

Where's the beef??? Find it right here at Bulgogi Brothers! I would say Bulgogi Brothers beef dishes fared the best, coming out tops in comparison with the other non-beef dishes.  Using Australian Beef gives it a kick up a notch.  Order the beef dishes (and that includes the delicious Bulgogi Bimbimbap) and you're set!

  2. Love the beef here! Flavourful and tender but price slightly on the high side.
