Wantan Noodles - Meng Shiang Taman Cheras

(Non-Halal)

After planning a meet up with KCC for about two weeks, I met up with her and her mom for brunch in Taman Cheras. She had been telling me about an absolutely delicious char siew (BBQ pork) wantan noodles that I must try and we decided to head to Meng Shiang, Taman Cheras which is just a stone's throw away from her house.

Meng Shiang
Upon reaching there, I was greeted by Janet, the proprietor; albeit busy but friendly nevertheless (the wantan mee stall is on the left of the pic above). It was only about 10.45 am and she had already quite a number of customers waiting in line for their takeaway orders, not to mention those who were eating there.

Char Siew
Slabs and slabs of yummy char siew!

Wantan Noodles
Instead of slicing the slab of char siew, Janet chops them! Hence, the thick pieces of char siew served with the noodles. As I am not a fan of chunky meat, I was pleasantly surprised at how tender the meat was even though it was on the lean side. The wantan noodles were springy and aromatic but the star of this plate was truly the char siew! I've not eaten wantan noodles with such lovely char siew before! Well, even Hock Lim's version pales in comparison with Meng Shiang's.
Pork Ribs
One must also order the char siew ribs. With a hint of five spice powder, they were totally lip-smacking finger-licking eat-clean-to-the-bone yummylicious!

So, make your way here for wantan noodles with a BIG YUMMY difference. You'll love it! See also Masak-masak's review on this place HERE.

  2. No matter how many times I tried with different recipes and sauces to marinate the pork, the char siew tasted different and not authentic. Wow! The char siew is even shimmering!

  4. i think char siu and wanton noodles is such a perfect combination, and they r juz so essential to one another. some guys hv fishballs with the wantan mee, well, no hard and fast rules, but i think that sucks...lol.

well, of course, if the char siu is of premium quality, then it is such a bonus. lol.

  10. Joe : So near your place...so envious of you! Hahaha...

wonda : I think it's cos you need a real"furnace" to cook these kind of char siew! So, maybe get one??? ;o)

kok : Yes, good char siew...I have tried kolo mee before, I love it too but char siew not as good as this one.

k.t.x. : Huh? Fishballs with wantan mee???

nkotb : Another reason to visit KL! :o)

kampungboycitygal : Craze? What craze? It's just food that most of us love mah!

chenboon : I can't read Chinese, a shame, cos a lot more food reviews in Chinese dailies. Yah, go try!

big boys oven : This morning cannot go there for breakfast, might be close. Safer to go on any other days except Tuesdays, unless you happen to be in that area.

jason : You should be happier, cos it's near your place! Mmmph....

Lyrical L : Aiyah, Cheras isn't that far away, only 30 minutes away! No need to move there. We all have traveled much farther for the sake of good food, I'm sure...Haha...

meiyen : Yes, at Yulek, opposite Hau Kee Seafood Restaurant.

Daphne : Like I said, the noodles are not bad too but once you start chomping down on the ribs and char siew, it'll become secondary.

tummythoz : Haha...I just saw LL's blog, now I know why some saw char siew craze and now, char siew season! LOL

wokandspoon: Oh yes, wonderful stuff here!

tigerfish : Yah, it's a welcome addition to the wantan mee variety! Heehee...
