Raju's Roti Canai with Naan 'N' Curry in SFO

Glorious Jade had packed 20 pieces of Roti Canai (flat bread) from Raju's in Petaling Jaya for my sis. After freezing them and then wrapping them up, the Raju's flat bread was transported to San Francisco, tucked away in my luggage.

When we decided to have a batch of them for dinner, Mrs Pitt said that she'll go to Naan 'N' Curry to get the curry gravy to go with the roti canais.

Little Paris on Stockton, San Francisco

Now I would like to share with you folks one of the food that I usually eat whenever I'm in San Francisco. I always make it a point to drop by Little Paris to get my BBQ Beef Sandwich.

Little Paris on Stockton

The ready packed meals
They actually sell all assortments of Vietnamese food - all ready packed. This eatery is rather small and only has a few tables for patron and does more take out orders. One of my fave pickup is the fried spring rolls with the rice noodles.

My fave Vietnamese Ham in the foil
One of the other food item I usually get here is the Vietnamese Ham (seen wrapped in aluminium foil). I will usually add it into my salads and noodles whenever I eat in. Also extremely good in preparing fried rice!

BBQ Beef Sandwich
Oh, and the main reason for dropping by at Little Paris time and time again? This wonderful BBQ Beef Sandwich (USD3.50). BBQ Pork is also available for those who prefer the "other" white meat! Hahaha...Anyway, what makes this sandwich taste so good is actually a mixture of all the different ingredients. Sliced BBQ Beef on a French loaf with pickled julienned radish, carrots and some raw onions and parsley. I guess the main factor would be the pickled vegetables. It's done spot on, not too sour and still with the "crunch" factor, making this a hit!

Greetings from San Francisco!

Hello there! I've arrived safely in San Francisco since July 19 (I'll be here till Sept 18). I will still be blogging now and then but I supposed the posts will be simple :o). Anyway, we took it easy the first few days as mom also traveled with me. We decided to stay in on Monday, so during lunch time we fed ourselves on quick-fix ready meals (Mrs Pitt was away at work). Here are some of them!

Sara Lee's Deluxe Onion Bagels
Breakfast...my all time fave Sara Lee's Deluxe Bagels. Halved, toasted and slathered generously with Light Whipped Cream Cheese from Trader Joe's :p

Trader Giotto's Whole Wheat Penne Pasta with Meatballs
Trader Giotto's Whole Wheat Penne Pasta with Meatballs...I found this okay as I'm not really a fan of tomato based sauce.

Maitre Pierre -Savoury French Tart from Alsace
This we really loved - Maitre Pierre Tarte D'Alsace
As described - it's a savoury French style ultra thin flat bread with ham, caramelized onions and Gruyere Cheese. Eaten hot right of the oven, the frozen treat is really to die for! I can't believe that it's frozen food as it really tasted heavenly!

So long Malaysia...for now!

In another 5 hours from now, I'll be making my way to KLIA with my mom for a vacation. We will be heading over to San Francisco to visit my sis, niece and bro-in-law. I will be away for 2 months (also leaving for Canada late July for about a week plus) and will be back on Malaysian soil on Sept 18.

I hope to still be able to blog a bit now and then while I'm in the States, so do drop by to check if I've had time to post. So for now, take care everyone ... and hope to "see" you all soon!

Assam House Restaurant @ Medan Gopeng, Ipoh

(HALAL)

Continuing from my previous post on Ipoh food, I had the opportunity to try out the food at Assam House on another one of my day trips there. The four of us had gone to an office nearby in the area and the folks at the office told us good things about Assam House which was within walking distance.

We had heard about Assam House but didn't know that they had a branch in Medan Gopeng. From a little setup back in 1991, it is well known for serving up delicious food and has attracted many famous and celebrity patrons through the years. The restaurant facade itself was colourful and stepping into the bright, clean and spacious setup brought us relief from the scorching sun. The menu had an ample line up and we quickly narrowed down to four dishes as we were really hungry (it was slightly past 2 p.m).

Assam House

Curry Assam Fish Head
Of course, we had to order the famous Curry Assam Fish Head, RM18.90 (I tried everything of this dish except the fish itself, hahaha...). I must say that I loved the curry assam gravy, done Indian style. It had the right consistency and we were delighted with this fragrant and delicious dish.

Puppy Siblings' Last Photo Shoot

It was like only yesterday when JoJo gave birth to her litter of 7 puppies. That was on April 20. As at today, only 4 of the 7 puppies are still with Glorious Jade (the grandma! hahaha...) and more will be leaving the "nest". With Glorious Jade and Shen helping to round them up, I was able to take a group pic of all 7 puppies together. Luckily a few of them were sleeping/sleepy :o)

Boy! Have they grown (looking back at this pic on the side here when Pinky was just a couple of hours old)! They looked so happy and healthy. Here's something to remember them by. Glorious Jade, this post is dedicated to you...

Sleepy
Sleepy as usual!

Found It! Chuan Fatt, Ipoh - Curry Noodles & Others

After having gone on several mini trips to Ipoh for food and had several curry noodles HERE and HERE that could not match the one I had many eons ago. I had no recollection where it was, that is....till now! YAY! When an old friend came visiting and mentioned about making a short trip to Ipoh and bringing me back to this place for the curry noodles, I just had to go!

Yes, it was a day trip to Ipoh that we had embarked on. We had a mission - To eat and to transport a certain VIP back to Kuala Lumpur! Starting early morning, we went straight for the jugular - curry noodles at Chuan Fatt! I didn't recall the place having ceiling high shiny light green tiles but the stall in front of the shoplot was exactly the same as it was before when I was here more than 10 years ago.

Curry Noodles
I found it! I found it at last - by far the best curry noodles I've tasted in Ipoh, right here in Chuan Fatt. Of course, different strokes for different folks as there are quite a number of eateries serving their own version that have their own legion of fans I'm sure :o). Here you can pick your toppings, mine was shredded chicken, char siew, roast pork siew yoke and pork rind. The soup had the right amount of spice, not too thick and somehow the whole ensemble just hit a home run with all of us. Do bear in mind that curry noodles in Ipoh is different from the more coconut milk laden soup version in Klang Valley.

11 and it still hurts ...

Dad, I sit here staring at the monitor as I key in the words that's going through my mind. Thoughts...silence....thoughts...silence...sadness...silence...tears...

Well, it does seems like the past 11 years still feels very much like the present. I have so many things to say to you, so many... I miss you Father, greatly and deeply. There will always be this void in my heart, it's been there since you left.

Dad - Eleven

I miss hearing your laughter
I miss seeing your smile
I miss talking to you
I miss cuddling up next to you
I miss the sight of you ...

I MISS YOU

When you love someone, love them with all your heart. Let them know that you do and cherish each and every day. Should that someone ever leave your side, at least you can tell yourself that you have truly loved them even if you don't get a chance to say goodbye. Don't ever take people and things for granted ... Go on, tell someone that you love them!

Friday's Quick Bites - Chef Loong SS2 Petaling Jaya

Thought of doing a short feature today - hence "Friday's Quick Bites" ;o)

Yellow Sponge Cake
Steaming hot Yellow Sponge Cake with custard in between, one of my fave orders. Absolutely delightful!

P.S. As for the watermark on the photo itself - I had encounters where my photos were taken without my knowledge and of course approval, watermark blog address (which I normally place at the corners) cropped out and used for commercial purpose. So, have decided to put it right across my photos now. Sigh...
