Wine Tasting in Sonoma County, California

Still thinking about Alcoholic Gelato, I decided to put up one of the weekend outings I had while I was in San Francisco. More alcohol ahead! Hahaha....It was fortunate that we had fine weather during the weekend we drove to Sonoma County; home to more than 300 award winning wineries. Our first stop was Loxton Cellars, Mr Chris Loxton was there personally to tell us more about Loxton, guiding us through the wine tasting session and took us on a little walk around the vineyard..

Alcoholic Gelato! @ Kopi Bar, Centrepoint, Bandar Utama

I have been thinking hard whether I should actually keep quiet (well, thanks to Eat First Think Later who told us about this wonderful discovery!) or share it. I decided that it is better to give :o), especially since I am a believer that "You Get What You Give" :o).

Kopi Bar @ Centerpoint serves an array of hawker fare plus dishes of which I have yet to try. A search on the internet shows that the Hainanese Chicken Rice is one of the specialties here. Somehow or rather, I never got round to it. Previously, I've been to Kopi Bar numerous times for drinks as they serve both alcoholic drinks and local tea and coffee, toast and half boiled eggs (hence the name Kopi Bar) in a simple and cosy setting. A 2-in-1 place for alcoholic and kopitiam customers indeed! The other specialty is one that is probably not really known to a lot of people yet.

EFTL had earlier told us about her Cameron Highlands trip and that she came across a stall selling home made gelato. Apart from the usual flavours, this stall serves some pretty unusual ones too (I'll come to that later) which EFTL tried. She told us, that she and her family practically stood there and ate countless scoops of ice-cream one serving after another, lining up again & again. Yes, it was THAT good! She lamented to the stall owner that she wouldn't be able to find such gelato back in Klang Valley. To her delight, she was told that they do send a batch to Klang Valley. To two places exactly; Bangsar and Centrepoint! She couldn't remember where exactly in Bangsar but paid more attention to Centrepoint since that was a more convenient spot for her. However, EFTL wasn't sure of where exactly and when she told me that it's suppose to be near McDonald's, I knew it had to be Kopi Bar which is tucked in a corner of Centrepoint. We made our way there and didn't see any noticeable side on the outside about such desserts. So ETFL asked one of the staff and he handed us a little menu. Eureka! We found the place (happy feet, doing a little dance!)....

So you ask, "What unusual flavours are you exactly talking about, WMW???".....Errrr, why don't you see for yourself?

Food Cottage's Gelato
Pay attention to the first 3 items on the list!!! I was ecstatic when I saw this menu.
Need I say more??? And now, I find myself eating these alcoholic gelato often at Kopi Bar or constantly thinking about these alcoholic gelato when I'm not! Help ... I think I have turned into an alcoholic! Hahaha....

Alcoholic Gelato
My two fave flavours : The grey looking one is Danish Royal Stout with Carlsberg while the one at the bottom is Jamaica Rum with Raisins! The gelato is lovely; creamy and packs a punch without being too rich. I especially love biting into the raisins that has rum bursting out of it! I even "beer burped" for the record ;o)

It's RM3/scoop and RM5 for two scoops. Seems that it's priced lower if you get them in Cameron Highlands (but I am not able to tell you where). So there you have it ... I wonder if others have been keeping mum about this gem or there are just too few of us who knows. We shall see in time....

Kitchen Creatures @ Centrepoint, Petaling Jaya

I noticed Kitchen Creatures had opened for business sometime back in mid December (not sure when it actually did). I finally paid a visit recently when I had lunch with Glorious Jade, hoping Kitchen Creatures will be running smoother by then (had read from earlier comments in other blogs about the usual gripe or two when a new restaurant starts its operations). With a simple three worded tagline, "No Frills Dining", did Kitchen Creatures deliver?

No Frills Dining
The view from where I sat ...they have seats out on the balcony too for those who like al-fresco dining (not at noon time with our hot Malaysian weather though!). The place is spacious and cosy while maintaining a simple layout. For more pics of Kitchen Creatures' interior, check out MissyCheerio's post.

Beef Stew
Beef Stew (RM6.80), double simmered in thick gravy. We enjoyed lapping up the delicious thick gravy which we guessed was a blend of potatoes, carrots and onions. However, though the beef cubes were tender, they were a tad lacking in beefy flavour. Overall, mighty good!

Baked Stuffed Mushrooms
When I saw Baked Stuffed Mushrooms (RM7.30) on the menu, I just had to order it since I absolutely adore mushrooms. Aren't they lovely?

A List of My Favourite Things (Food!) - Part One

Meant to post this up for year end but didn't get round to finishing it. As far as food is concern, I'm sure we have our own favourite haunts. As taste is rather subjective, my favourites might not be the same as yours and vice versa. However, I decided to do a posting of my favourite simple fare or street food and snacks of the places that I drop by time and time again in Klang Valley over the years or decades even. Some of these are from rather recent posts and some from several years back. I will definitely continue going to these places in 2010 :o)

Meow Meow Seafood Grill Fish Restaurant @ Dataran Mentari

My first post for 2010!

While driving around Dataran Mentari one night with my family, we looked around the area for dinner before mom and I left for the States. With no particular restaurant in mind, we drove around Dataran Mentari, looking out for something interesting. We passed by the steamboat restaurants (Boy! There are plenty of steamboat restaurants here), finding each crowded and with lines flowing from the pavement, and onto the five foot way and right to the road. Shortly after, our stomachs started to growl and we decided to stop at the first restaurant that had a table for the whole family. Now, most of you know that I tend to steer clear from seafood restaurants since I'm not a fan of such food fare. But as fate would have it...where did we end up?

Meow Meow Seafood Grill Fish Restaurant
Proof that God has a sense of humour :o)

Anyway, I usually get the standard reply - There are other stuff you can eat...and with that we went into the the slightly more than half filled restaurant. The place is bright and colourful, exactly how bright and colourful?
Bright and colourful interior
See? Hahaha....the big images of food adorning the wall of Meow Meow Seafood Grill Fish Restaurant got our tummies doing cartwheels!. Apparently, this place started operations a few months back, hence the "new" look!

My bro did the ordering and we sat around waiting for our dishes impatiently since we were famished by then. However, SpareChange and I kept ourselves busy taking pics of the restaurant or any other object that was within the shooting range for that matter! Hahaha...
