HTC One Max - Christmas Comes Early!

Woo Hoo ... I have just received a HTC One Max courtesy of HTC and is just simply elated over it... I have just finished setting it up... It came with a HTC BoomBass that enriches the bass of audio in accompaniment to the HTC One Max (or HTC One) dual front stereo speakers.  First impression, love it, love it, love it! It's big but feels nice to hold in my hands.  The 5.9" display is stunning.  Will write more on this later...Here are some pics for now!

HTC One Max Launch, Enjoyment Maximised!

It was back in April 2013 that I had attended the launch of HTC One which won me over and it was love at first sight.  But it looks like the love I have for HTC One is in jeopardy as I have recently attended the HTC One Max launch held at Elegantology, Publika on 21 November, 2013. I have found a new love!

HTC One Max Launch

The HTC One Max looks almost exactly like the HTC One, except that it's bigger. Anyone looking for a phablet (a phone and tablet!) as their next purchase, just stop right here.  The HTC One Max oozes pure entertainment excitement with great performance specifications.

The phablet size HTC One Max running on Android 4.3 with a 5.9" full HD 1080p display looks simply awesome.  Weighing at only 217g, this phablet packs a punch!  While most of the HTC One specifications are found in the HTC One Max with the same premium design. there are several notable additions to take note of:

Haji Shariff's Cendol, Seremban

It's been a while, slightly more than a 2 month break from updating this blog of mine.  I decided to make an attempt at resuscitating this blog...hahaha...Having blogged about the cendol I had in Port Dickson back in my post dated August 21, this reminded me of one of my visits to Haji Shariff's Cendol in Seremban in one of my day trips around Malaysia.

Haji Shariff's Cendol
Cendol is big business here! Occupying a corner shoplot, business runs at a fast and furious pace...especially on a hot day!

The group of us ordered a few different varieties of cendol and of course...rojak too! Our orders were sent to our table at a rather fast and furious pace too though the place was packed.

Haji Shariff's Cendol
Good old conventional plain cendol @ RM1.30 a bowl (USD 0.40) which came out rather...err...plain when compared with ...

Haji Shariff's Cendol
Cendol Kacang and Jagung (Red Bean and Corn) goes for RM1.70 (USD 0.50).  My favourite order whenever I have cendol. There is simply more to munch and enjoy when compared to a plain cendol

Friday Quick Bite Series - Vary Pasta

(NON-HALAL)

Hmmm....met up with the  A-Girls at Vary Pasta sometime back. This place has been around for quite awhile now.  Parking can be quite a hassle, so it you are heading here, you can park around RHB Bank and walked through the lane and you'll find Vary Pasta right at the back of RHB Bank on your left.

While most of you all would have read the other reviews about this place especially on the pastas, I thought I would just highlight on one item.  While the girls ordered the pasta which comes in a generous portion, I opted for a lighter meal; the Pork Bacon Sandwich.  I had a couple of bites of the pasta and it was flavourful, standard stuff. However, I found more enjoyment and satisfaction from the Pork Bacon Sandwich  which turned out pretty good.  At just RM5.50, the Pork Bacon Sandwich consisted of generous mesclun salad and bacon, thousand island dressing...all sandwiched between two toasted white bread.  Something simple you can prepare on your own at home but then if you're looking for something apart from pasta and light...try this!

Hmmm, I guess it's time for another visit soon.

Rojak & Cendol, Jalan Dato' Pathmanaban, Port Dickson

Rojak and Cendol goes hand in hand....like horse and carriage, love and marriage.  It was no different when Moo took me to this stall located at an open area (together with several other stalls), located along Jalan Dato Pathmanaban (Jalan Lama) for tea time!

I recalled it was puasa time and I wasn't sure whether we were too early or it was simply the fact that some proprietors took time off and didn't set up stall as usual. Although our eyes wanted us to feast on the several delights there, our stomach told us that we could only take in a plate of rojak and .... cendol, of course.

Teatime in Port Dickson
At such prices, we were wondering at this point in time whether we should also try the ABC! Hahaha...

Teatime in Port Dickson
We put in our order of rojak first. The stall looked tidy and clean, well organized indeed.  Our order came promptly and was served with a smile :o)

Teatime in Port Dickson
The rojak was quite good.  Obviously it's all about the sauce!  The sweetness was just right and so was the consistency of it. Well, the fritters were fresh; together with the julienned vegetables of turnips, cucumber and tofu, it was a nice tea time snack.

Famous and Tasty Chicken Rice @ Restoran Yit Hin, Port Dickson

Life has been great and after having spent about 7 weeks in US, I have been busy catching up on Malaysian life.  Monkey Jr had just asked me the other day, to update my blog which prompted me to well, put up a post indeed; a food post.

Yit Hin Chicken Rice

I had taken a few short trips to Port Dickson with Moo on errand runs, simply to accompany Moo and Moo's promise to bring me around for food! Hahahaha...  Our first stop in Port Dickson town usually is Restoran Yit Hin.  It is a little stall located at a hawker center which used to be the Old Pasar, a wet market. Why is this usually our first stop? That's because demand exceeds supply daily and the chicken rice is usually sold out sometimes at lunch time itself.  I remember there was once the four of us had to share two plates of chicken rice as they were running out and this was around 1 plus pm.  So, what makes it so good?

Yit Hin Chicken Rice
Yit Hin Chicken Rice
Is it the way they lovingly and happily prepare the food?

Yit Hin Chicken Rice
Is it the secret sauce drizzled onto the chicken?
Is is the fragrant rice that is done just right?
Is it the corn fed chicken that makes the meat so tender?

The Joy Of HTC One ... HTC Zoe, Sense 5, BlinkFeed, Battery and more ...

I received my HTC One phone while I am on vacation in San Francisco and have been taking it out with me on my daily walks.  There is so much to love about the HTC One...apart from what I have written about it from my earlier post of the HTC One launch.

For one, the battery life of HTC One is really good.  I use it often to take photos (lots of it) and editing, for Facebook and surfing...Using it heavily between the hours of 10am till 4pm (cos that's when I am out and taking photographs!), after a total usage for about 15 hours (from the time I switched it on at 9am till the time I took the screen shot of the battery level) I am left with a 24% battery juice.  I am extremely happy with the performance.  I do not use the Power Save feature and control the brightness and the timing of the phone manually.

Battery Level

I have also become more up-to-date with news around the world.  Well, the World news is kinda depressing at times...so, I keep myself happier with news from the Entertainment world instead.  With BlinkFeed, I can do just that without having the dig for the information via search engines.  Once I choose my options from categories like Food, Music, Movie, Politics, Gadgets etc etc..news about these are just a fingertip away.  You can choose from a "pull-down" tab of which category you would like to see on the BlinkFeed page ... and presto, you are now updated with the latest news and trends! Check out this screenshot I took of my Movie news :o)  Read more about BlinkFeed HERE ...

Screenshot BlinkFeed
WooHoo ... coincidentally, news about my favourite couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie on my BlinkFeed!

As most of you would know, I love photography and HTC One's camera app with added features has made it one of the most used feature of the phone.  I have it daily on me as I go for my walkabout around San Francisco .... and so far I'm pleased with it.  The Ultrapixels allow me to take great low light pics (regardless of some complaining of the low 4 Megapixel camera...it's not like I will be making extra large prints of my pics.  I think it's great enough for a fullscreen laptop viewing!).  I am not a technical person, not so critical on specs...I just like what I see and get with the HTC One and that makes me one happy camper!

Night Shot (No editing)
I took this pic in a dark room with the TV as the ONLY light source....though grainy, I am still impressed that it was able to capture the texture and the shadow of the blanket on the bed. I have not done any further editing to this photo.

Well, of course the HTC Sense with the added Zoe feature which takes a 3 second moving shot allowed for a nifty feature - a Zoe Sequence Shot.  This means that I can choose several frames from the moving shot and combine them together for a sequence shot.  Read more about HTC Sense 5 HERE ...

Zoe Sequence Shot
Cool right? Shot at Embarcadero.  Once again, no further editing was done to this photo.

Kaffa Espresso Bar, Damansara Utama

Of late, the Coffee Gang has been hanging out at Kaffa Espresso Bar.  Fortunately, we have always only met up here at night where car park bays are not scarce "commodity".  Try coming here during office hours and you'll know what I mean :o).  There is another option though; park your car at one of the Uptown Towers and then board the Uptown Shuttle Van to make your way here.

HTC One Malaysia Launch - This is THE One!

This was ONE event that I was really looking forward to.  Prior to its arrival here in Malaysia, I have been reading great news about the HTC One in worldwide reviews.  The launch was held in Studio Lounge, Tropicana City Mall last night.  Walking into a dark venue, the glow of the HTC display stand with the HTC One on a pedestal attracted me immediately even though I was surrounded by a crowd; "Resistance is futile".

OSIM uAngel Launch by Sammi Cheng @ 1Utama

Arriving early, the Oval Concourse at 1Utama was already abuzz with a sea of people.  The crowd was here to catch a glimpse of Sammi Cheng, who is the newest ambassador for OSIM uAngel.  Before we get to see Sammi pics, what exactly is the uAngel?  OSIM uAngel is the world's first sofa that transforms into a massage chair. Yes, you read it right ... a TRANSFORMER sofa! :)

By the looks of the units on display, the uAngel sofa is indeed rather small in size...unlike the other much bigger versions of massage chairs in general that are available in the market currently. Quite a number of people I know have thought about getting massage chairs but didn't in the end as they found the massage chair to be a rather clunky piece of furniture.  Well, uAngel might just be the answer to overcome that issue.

Check out the video of Sammi Cheng and her OSIM uAngel sofa ...

Well, we got to see Sammi Cheng in person to promote OSIM's latest product.  Here are some the photos highlighting the event in 1Utama.

Doi Chaang Coffee @ Jaya One, Petaling Jaya

Here's a quick post...I just got back from Doi Chaang @ Jaya One and decided to do a short post on it.  With operating hours daily (close on Sundays) from 9am-7pm (yes, extended by another hour!), the few of us made it a point to arrive at this place right after work in time to try out their coffee before it closes on us yet again.  Hahaha...we had wandered to Doi Chaang on a Sunday previously and was deprived of our coffee since it's close on Sundays!

Gao Ren Guan, Jaya One - Simple Pleasures

NON-HALAL

Absent from the blogosphere during the whole month of February, the past month had been a fury of Chinese New Year meals, one after another.  At a time when one is constantly barraged with the usual rich good food, it was a pleasant change when we dined at Gao Ren Guan in Jaya One recently.  Not to say that the food was different but it was really food that not only filled the tummy but touched the heart.  If you check out their website...they have a tag line that says "...feels like dining at home".  Yes, though the restaurant was crowded and with the endless loud chattering (that includes even the usual "loud wishes" routine during the lo sang ceremony!), we really felt at "home".  I had the opportunity to dine at Gao Ren Guan twice during this Chinese New Year period and I gotta say, it has now become one of my favourite restaurants to go to.  With great tasting food that speaks for itself, the simplicity won me over ... Needless to say, my friends are of the same opinion too and we look forward to our next meal there again.  Here are some of the dishes we "connected" with ...

CNYYeeSang
Having eaten about 8 times of Yee Sang during this Chinese New Year celebration, the group of us really like Gao Ren Guan's version.  The condiments were refine but what made it good was the sauce.  Subtle yet rich enough, it had a sweetness that was spot on and yet a pleasant sourish taste that gave a balance of all the right flavours.  Looking forward to this in 2014!

CNYCharYoke
Another great yet simple dish was the Hakka Char Yoke (Small RM10, Large RM20) - lean yet tender pieces of sliced pork.  Each slice had a wonderful crunch as we bit into it...breaking the crispy marinated layer of skin. A real delight!

Getaway at Golden Palm Tree Iconic Resort & Spa

I had been to Sepang Gold Coast several times and had blogged about the place before and it was only on my latest visit that I found it renamed to Golden Palm Tree Iconic Resort & Spa.  Now, the last time I blogged, I had quite a number of blog readers asking me for directions, making reservations or enquiring about dining facilities there.  I am not associated with Sepang Gold Coast or Golden Palm Tree Iconic Resort & Spa.  If you have any enquiries, please check out their website here for more details and direct your questions to them.

It was indeed a lovely stay, the surroundings and ambiance were wonderful.  However, there were a lot of flies around during the daytime, seem to disappear at night though... Here are some of the pics I took of the place during my overnight stay there.  It's great for a weekend getaway (or even weekday...).  Will someone hire me to travel? Hahaha... Ah..a working holiday that I would love :o)... Don't mind me, it's January and I'm pretty much still in a holiday mood, I wanna have a getaway soon (all the time actually, hahaha)!

Yah, what a night it was....the moon was out, the wind was blowing.  I want more night views like this! Sob! Sob!...
