Pun Chun Noodle House @ Kota Kemuning

(NON-HALAL)

The Zoo Gang was looking forward to a day trip to Seremban for our usual Quinn's beef noodles but due to some last minute changes, we ended up in Kota Kemuning instead. Needless to say, Tiger was pouting a fair bit along the way as she was looking forward to the beef balls but anyway....

We drove to Kota Kemuning, wanting to visit somewhere else actually but it was not opened and we ended up in Pun Chun Noodle House. Read about them opening a branch here a while back but never got the chance to try it out till now. I sure have lots of sweet memories of Pun Chun back in Bidor as that was one of the many food pit stops that the Apple Crumble Team aka Fantastic Four (comprising of Jackson, Precious Pea, Teckiee and me) made when we took part in The Star's Drive For Food back in 2007!

Well, they had the same sort of display here, selling the usual famous "chicken" biscuits sans the little snack corner that has delicious Woo Kok (Yam/Taro Puff) in Bidor.

Tiger's order of Duck Drumstick Dry Noodles (RM6.80) came first. I had to take the shots quickly as I was afraid Tiger would take a swipe at me with her "paws" if I took my time composing the shot. Hence I'm unsated with this pic of Tiger's food! Hahah :op

I remembered the soup in Bidor was darker and oilier. I tried a spoonful of soup and found the taste too strong and bitter for my liking and hoped I would like my order...

Khuntai Restaurant - Thai Food, Petaling Jaya

W
here were we? Ahhh.... dinner on Sunday night with Mom. Bro was in a spicy mood and suggested that we do Thai for dinner and suggested somewhere nearby; Khuntai. I've heard several people telling me that Khuntai dishes out rather good Thai food and wondered if it's as good as they say.

Arriving there during peak dinner time without reservations (it was packed, either due to the usual dinner crowd or 'cos it's Mom's Day), we waited for a bearable 10 minutes or so before we got a table. I had hoped to get a table with adequate lighting but was shown to a table outdoors. "Bummer!", I told myself as lighting was just minimum, hardly conducive for photos but tried my best.

As I was busy chatting with my nephew, Spare Change about photography, lighting etc. etc. (shooting the chili bottles to test the lighting), my bro did the ordering. So, I didn't know what to expect till the dishes were delivered to the table. We ordered a big jug of Kedondong (Ambarella) fruit juice which I didn't take a photo of. At RM20, it really quenched our thirst and was enough for the 6 of us.

Spicy Mango Kerabu
The Spicy Mango Kerabu (RM15/USD4.30) - I found the mango too raw for me but loved eating the whole ensemble together with the crispy anchovies, cashew nuts and onions. Not as spicy as I thought it would be.

Fish Maw Kerabu
SIL being a vege lover, ordered the Fish Maw Kerabu (RM13/USD3.70). As if having read my thoughts on the earlier dish, this one came loaded with chili padi (bird's eye chili), very evident from the photo right? Approach with caution. The Fish Maw was slightly crispy but had an overall chewy texture. This was like a "Thai" mesclun salad with all sorts of greens. Taste wise, I prefer the Spicy Mango Kerabu over this.

Mom's Day Out

Just a quick update on today's lunch. Took Mom out for lunch and she wanted to go to 1Utama for a bit of shopping. As we wandered about, we ended up at Italiannies ... Pleasantly surprised that they were giving Moms a discount off selected main meals according to their age! Here are the pics ... (FYI, we celebrated again at dinner time!). Mrs Pitt, wished you were here...

Only Bread?
Mom : "Is that all? Only bread for me to eat???"
