Since I'm not that keen on fish, we ended up ordering more fried stuff over the "regular" Yong Tau Foo pieces. At RM0.80/piece, it's still reasonably priced (of course the price has increased over Foong Foong's 20 odd years of operation) as the Yong Tau Foo were rather big pieces. I've come across some "dainty" looking ones in some of the other Yong Tau Foo restaurants which are priced even higher. The fried Sui Kow and Foo Chook tasted good; crispy and not oily. Apparently the regular assorted Yong Tau Foo fared averagely, so the fried items did better overall. Though I won't say it's the best, it's still one of the better places for a Yong Tau Foo meal. Let's just say, I won't purposely make my way there if I want eat Yong Tau Foo but if I'm in the area, then I won't mind dropping by.
Here's a look at the Yong Tau Foo production line. From the "paste stuffing" stage to the different ways of cooking; different stations for boiling and deep frying. Definitely a hive of activity!
With the orders being given by staffs at the counter over a PA system, I was intrigued to see them jotting down the orders in tiny font sized on some A4 paper. I can't seem to decipher how these billing "data" works (apart from the table no.) as the staff would refer back to the paper to calculate our bill. Just when I think I got it...another table's column would throw my theory out. Anyone knows? :o)
Have a great week ahead!
