Spring Golden Restaurant, Shah Alam

(NON-HALAL Post)

Preparing to go off to meet Daphne, I was suppose to give a ride to Teckiee and Ashley (a non blogger friend of mine) to 1Utama. However, I couldn't get my car alarm remote to work as my car battery had a relapsed and couldn't be revived (it went into "sick" mode while I was away in Egypt but I managed to zap it back into action and it lasted me for another month). So, Teckiee ended up fetching me and Ashley and off we went to Pick n Brew where we also met up with Kusahi Keat and Imbi n Itchy (I'll just call her INI from now on - which means "THIS" in Malay). For more on the meet up, read Teckiee's post HERE. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, as always when we gather and even planned for another eat and chat session later today.

Anyway, during this particular session, Kusahi Keat told us that he had found a place in Glenmarie for some very good char siew (BBQ pork). Me being a BBQ pork fan told him to take us there and he made good on his promise and took me there the very next day. As for the rest, one of couldn't wake up in time and one didn't response in time and ended up missing out!
Spring Golden
Turns out that I do know how to go to this place (*pats myself on the back*) on my own as I've been to the area before and have not realised the "treasure" that was hidden in this 2 year old restaurant all this while.

Kusahi Keat had called up earlier to check whether they were opened on Sundays and have also reserved some char siew for us. So, I waited with bated breath as the "treasure" was delivered to our table.
Char Siew - BBQ Pork
You can order the BBQ Pork lean or otherwise. We ordered Poon Fei Sau (half lean, half fat) and these arrived. It looked good and I took my first bite with great anticipation. The fat melted away and blended with the meat part with was very tender, I was definitely satisfied! It's a tad less sweeter than my other favourite place for char siew. So for those who like it less sweet, Spring Golden is the place for your kind of char siew.
Siew Yoke - Roast Pork
Kusahi Keat wanted some more meat and ordered a small portion of Siew Yoke - Roast Pork which paled in comparison with their BBQ Pork. The meat was lean but it was also dry.
Prawn Wantan
We also had a small bowl of 4 prawn wantans but these wantans weren't small at all. The wantan had a whole prawn and minced pork for filling, making it a delicious side dish.

Spring Golden also serves roast sausages, roast duck, ginger duck and curry chicken to name a few and you can also choose to have your meats with noodles or rice. This is actually their second outlet in Shah Alam and there is another third outlet in Klang with the main branch located at Taman Perindustrian Axis in Shah Alam. I spoke to the sister of the owner who runs this place and she mentioned that the meat are cooked at the main branch and transported to this second outlet. There is also another variety of pork which is called Sakura Pork. It's somewhat like the premium cut and is available upon earlier reserved request (like as in days, as the supply is from Ipoh). Kei Kei (the sister) told me to give her a call anytime to find out if there's any available on days when I would like to drop by. I told her that it might not be a good idea as I will probably be calling her everyday. Hahaha.... she might just ignore my calls then. I told my brother about this and we are already gearing up for another visit to try out the Sakura Pork at this place next weekend with the family.
Char Siew - BBQ Pork
If the ordinary cut tastes so divine...one can only imagine how the premium cut would be. Stay tune for Part 2 of Spring Golden next week!

Kok : But then you always have your kolo mee ... :(

Precious P : The answer is yes, yours tasted much better! Will let you know about the weekend.

Joe : Hahaha....not yet. Didn't you see the question mark after "To Be Continued...?"

C-Rex : Pork is not quite the same over where you at, eh?

Jason : It's the meat that's slightly pinkish. The sauce is actually dark brown.

Kenny: Such passion you have, you even see it in the colours of food. LOL!

Nic : I believe that's what it's caled. Thanks...Inspired? Not enough to wax lyrically about it though, hahaha...

KampungBoyCityGal : If this post is a crime...then I'm guilty! Lock me up and throw away the key but must make sure I have my supply of char siew throughout my sentence. Hahaha...

The sakura pork needs to be ordered ahead. Just call Max, the owner, a few days ahead and he can get it ready. This variety of char siu is known as "crystal" or "poh lei", as the outside is slightly crisp while the inside is tender. Ask for the char siu to be cut thick as it tastes much better. Sakura pork is a type of pig which is fed lactobasilius, kinda like a free range pig - the uncooked type is available at a shop opposite Seapark Mkt.

The sakura pork variety is definitely great stuff. Max also does an excellent stewed pig trotters. No Klang outlet, that has closed down. Only these 2 places. Enjoy yr char siu.
