My Shiraz Braised Wagyu Beef Cheeks with Mushroom Ragout served with Polenta(RM60). Just like Lyrical Lemongrass, I really enjoyed this dish. When I had the first bite, it was truly an extraodinary feeling as the beef just seem to melt in my mouth. I love mushrooms and the mushrooms with the wagyu beef cheeks just made this dish even more unforgettable. The polenta was delicious with the gravy and I even took a slice of the soft bread given earlier to mop up the gravy! I was nearly in tears of happiness when I took the first bite and nearly in tears of sadness as I took the last bite as there was no more! LOL! Jason and Allan took a bite and they were speechless and wide eyed!
I couldn't remember whose order this was. The lamb cutlets chargrilled, accompanied by garlic confit and fine port laced mint sauce (RM50). I had a bite of it, courtesy of Mavis and it was tender and flavourful. Must try this the next time I visit Max!.
Jason's order of Two Duck Breast (RM40) - pan roasted and hickory smoked duck breast with berries marmalade. The serving for this though might seem to be a tad little for a guy's appetite. Took a bite and again this was another winner. Cooked just right, the duck meat was tender and moist. Seems mostly all the mains were good, I'll have to come back a few times more to try them out!Allan's U.S. choice of tenderloin beef chargrilled with duck terrine and red wine sauce (RM70) was also heavenly, just like Nigel's and Allan's Just Heavenly cakes. Ha ha....
We then ordered desserts and Nigel had the warm Valrhona Chocolate Souffle with vanilla bean ice-cream (RM20).
Jason and I shared a dessert again and we ordered the Crisp Kataifi Pastry wrapped strawberry with passion fruit - coconut ice cream and seasonal fruit salad (RM18). The coconut ice-cream was sherbet like, sweet and sourish and the pastry went very well with it. I also enjoyed the slices of fruits.
This was Lyrical Lemongrass's White Chocolate Fondant Tart and she enjoyed it.
We ended the night with a Cowboy shot. On googling it, found out that this drink has a rather rude name! Hahaha....click here if you want to find out what it's called. It's a mix of 2 parts Butterscotch Schnapps and 1 part Bailey's Irish Cream. Good stuff!
I found the food at Max! truly wonderful and the desserts nice. The mains were definitely great and outshone the desserts. I'll definitely pass the word around to my friends and will be paying Max a visit again. It was yet another night of good food, good fun and in good company! That seems to be the standard whenever the group of us meet ;o) Oh, and the laughter...it's contagious!

Dear WMW,
After reading Joe's description on how you and LL enjoyed your food, I was eager to read more....What a treat! I enjoyed reading and imagining your satisfaction of eating the Wagyu beef Cheeks.
"I was nearly in tears of happiness when I took the first bite and nearly in tears of sadness as I took the last bite as there was no more!" You are so kind to share your beef cheeks with Jason and Allen.
Max sounds like a really nice gentleman; Ladies first from ordering to serving. My kind of guy!
I have never had "Crisp Kataifi Pastry". From the photo, it looks like a deep fried rice vermicelli or rice sticks. It is definitely "hip" to serve dessert on spoons.
I enjoyed reading this sophisticated article as well as drooling over the food, especially the Wagyu beef cheeks. Thanks!
the wagyu normally leaves that kind of impression the 1st time..but it didnt strike me the 2nd time..dunno why..how come i didnt get any courtesy bites of lamb despite me seating nxt to u ar? hahaha..
the cowboy shot isnt c**k s**ker rite? hahaha..nice pictures lar..early morning wake up see max food..
My tastebuds are almost non-existent due to the flu, but when Boss Man says let's go to Max for lunch (God bless Boss Man), I can't say no, so I'm going today. *wide grin*
whooppeeee, i can't wait for my dinner date tonite at Max!
Lee Ping : We were giving sample bites to each other, at least to those who were near us. The Kataifi does seem to be some form of rice sticks (vermicelli). Haha..."hip" if your trademark word, eh? You're most welcomed.
Joe : Ok, will see how if feels when I try the wagyu beef cheeks for the 2nd time. A bite of the lamb from me? I didn't order lamb mah, I got a bite from Mavis myself. I think we were offering our food to those around us. You must have been too engrossed in the food yourself to hear 'cos Mavis asked us. :o)
lyrical lemongrass : How blessed! How come boss said to go there? Cos he read your blog? Hee hee...
Jackson : Saya takkan terpikat lagi. Tapi.....kalau anda rela nak belanja saya, saya setuju. Kami boleh menikmati makanan yang sungguh enak ini bagaikan kurniaan dari mahligai.
Babe_KL : Since all is good, have you decided what you're going to order? Hard when you want to try everything! ;o)
I thought it was supposed to be "kurniaan daripada malaikat?" ROFL! Thanks kah jie for the precious wagyu piece!
Those fancy deserts look amazing! Sounds like you guys were really well fed and rolled out of there after dinner! ;-)
More good food....sigh.....next time can send some this way or not? Everytime I visit this blog, I feel like my tummy is missing out a lot! :(
Jason: No lah, you also gave me a piece of your precious duck meat.
wokandspoon : I was already rolling in before dinner! LOL!
dr ve thru : Ha! Ha! Oh, I've always wanted to ask you...Did you purposely leave out the "i" in your nick? Is it suppose to be drive thru? :o)
OMG, can even see the vanilla beans on the souffle. "Caviar" on souffle!!!
Maximum enjoyment? At a glance I thought your title was hahaha! ...... Max. Enjoyment!
YUMMYYY!!!!!!! Drooling oledi looking at those food...luckily am seeing Max tomorrow.
Aiyoh WMW, good thing I had my lunch prior to reading your blog. (Learnt my lesson when I visited Lee Ping's blog before lunch time)! You know, my office is so near to MAX but have yet to venture that way. *sigh*
WMW, sorry - not finish yet - I meant to add on: You make a very good food review. Such tempting pictures and the way you describe them make me want to go and try it out immediately.
tigerfish : Hahaha...isn't food exciting?
wonda : It was a play on words and the name of the restaurant - Max!
precious pea : You are? Hey! We wanna go! LOL...
ilene : Hey, then you should go check out the lunch menu....seems the prices are quite reasonable. Thanks for the compliment! So, do go and do lunch there soon ;o)
wmw,
Good word play for the title. Max gives max. enjoyment! See, Ilene also agrees with me. Your food pix and review are so good that make me want to grab those food.
wmw, haha, you got it. It was when we were at Wales. I blogged about it....Sept 06.
Anyway, I'm thinking of changing to wordpress so I won't be confusing anyone with my name cos some people think I am a doctor....so paiseh lah.
WMW,
wah. the wagyu looks so so wonderful. I am sure it taste superb as well!
next time, must escape to KL to try it.
the last picture, my colleague brought it to office once and gave us each one of it!
Wish my friends and I had dropped by Max instead last night... we were nearby but our birthday girl had reserved a table at NeroVivo instead, whose dishes pale in comparison to your descriptions of Max's fare.
Well, at least we had al fresco dining...
I'm so trying the Wagyu beef cheeks if I ever head there... I want my tears of nearly happiness and nearly sadness too... ;)
wonda : Once again, thank you for your compliments!
dr ve thru : I had also thought you were a doc! :O)
keropok man : Escape from Singapore? ha ha ha...Yah, come over to Max for max. enjoyment.
kenny : Well, I don't normally wish this to others, but if you're dining at Max!, I hope you will cry! :p
