Snacking @ Fat Spoon, Damansara Utama, Petaling jaya

Much has been said about Fat Spoon. I must say that the photos of the facade and the interior of Fat Spoon from other blogs attracted me rather than the food. I had read that there were hits and misses and we decided to just opt for snacks instead since we were already eating way past lunch time after a meeting at our HQ. True enough we were delighted by the way they have done up the place when we arrived at Fat Spoon. So much so, there are actually more photos of the place than the food we ate :o)

The interior deco is a mix and mash of old & new ...

(more old than new), something borrow, something blue ... A big blackboard menu adorns the wall, adding a whimsical feel to it; reminding me of my schooldays.

Look, it's a cushion sofa from the 70s! More whimsical touches to the quaint restaurant with a mix of old furniture from different eras ...

What we have hanging over our heads ... Hey Diddle Diddle comes to mind :o)

Hey diddle diddle,

The cat and the fiddle,

The cow jumped over the moon,

The little dog laughed to see such a sport,

and the dish ran away with the spoon!

Which explains why the dish and spoon weren't hanging there .... :o)

More recycling ideas - old Ladybird books ....

It doubles up as a menu and also provide a few minutes of distraction for kids as they flip through the pages.

Of course, we did get round to ordering ... Homemade Yam Cake (RM4.90) was pretty good. A good mix of flour and yam, though I would have preferred the fried shallot topping to be crispy (rather than soft) for a balance of a good crunch together with the soft texture of the yam cake.

Perut Ikan with Bread (RM7.90)- a small rice bowl serving of perut ikan with a bun. Friend commented that the perut ikan dish was devoid of perut ikan (fish stomach) itself. When asked, the proprietor says that their recipe for perut ikan is made non-perut ikan style! Huh??? Well, maybe they should explain this to customers at the time of ordering so that the customers won't be wondering. I do find it odd ... My friend said that it was below average for him since the main ingredient is missing!

I ordered the Dried Prawns (Heh Bee) Fritters - 6 small pieces for RM4.90. While the dough was of a nice texture and fried golden brown, the dried prawns weren't adequate and had been blended way too fine. These fritters fell short on taste.

I haven't really tried the other things on the menu ... and I won't mind coming back again as the ambiance and setting is a pull factor for me. A little place for me to slip back into my childhood days after a mind taxing meeting is always a good thing, plus since the place is only about 6 months old, I'll cut it some slack ;o)
