Soupy Meals @ Wong Siong Wong, Sunway Mas

UPDATED : NO LONGER IN OPERATION AS SONS RUNNING THE PLACE HAVE MIGRATED.

Wong Siong Wong Bak Kut Teh in Sunway Mas has always been a place I go to when I feel like having something soupy. Once feeling a bit under the weather and down with a cold, I dropped by this place for lunch. And what soupy food did I order?
Herbal Mee Suah
I was in a hurry to drink the soup and kinda mess up the bowl before I took a pic of it. A simple and nice soupy bowl of Bak Kut Teh Soup (without the bak "Meat" for me!)with Mee Suah (fine wheat noodle), some button & enoki mushrooms, foo chook (Beancurd Skin) and taupok (fried tofu puffs).
Herbal Chicken Drumstick
And if you're not in the mood for rice or noodles or BKT, how about some yummylicious Herbal Soup with Chicken Drumstick served in a claypot?

I had a really quick dinner tonight as I still had work to do after that. Yeah, I've been busy and have not had time to do my usual round of blog visiting. I hope to be able to catch up on some blog reading soon. Well, back to dinner, I decided to head over to Wong Siong Wong with KA since we were nearby and I was hankering for my usual Bak-less Kut Teh. You read that right... Bak-less, no meat but a pot of soup from the bak with lots of enoki and button mushrooms, cabbage, foo chook (Beancurd Skin) and taupok (fried tofu puffs). That's how I like to have my BKT as I'm not really a fan of "boiled" meat and this is one of those places that has such an order in the menu. So, no strange looks from them should you ask for the vegetarian version. At RM7.50/USD2.40 per serving, it's a pot of goodness that will surely warm you up. Additional points if taken on rainy nights :o).
Bak-less Kut Teh
By the way, this pot of Bakless Kut Teh photo was taken with my new baby, Nikon D80. It's only two days old and I still haven't finish reading the manual. I'm still learning how to take photos with it, tinkering with the unfamiliar function buttons and dials.

mama bok : I'll eat pork only if it's prepared in certain ways, like char siew style for one!

Precious P: Hahaha...as per our teleconversation!

Lyrical L : I'll try and see whether I can still retain the title while using this new camera :o)

Barbie : Well, I'm still gonna use my tiny camera for food shots. Will only use the biggie at places where I'm a familiar face :o). But it's more for my travel pics.

Unkaleong : Yeah, finally...

Tummythoz : You having a memory lapse???

Jason : Thanks for reminding Tummythoz. One weekend ler...come up to PJ to try.

Judy : What sort of problems? Nice lo the mee suah, cos if you like the BKT soup, sure you like the noodles with the soup also.

joe : Yeah...try finding your way here to try it. Still fiddling with the new camera :o)

bbo : Mmmm...not that far (not that near either) from your place. Make your way here, a few blocks further down from the famous Seremban favourites place.

nic : I'm a Sony user, not Nokia ;o). Anybody else using Nikon apart from you?

sc: Yes it is. Hahaha...it never occurred to me to ask you along for dinner, I only think of asking you when I eat at FSF...not here. Sorry! Will do so, next time.

tigerfish : No Bak, no Kut...so should be just Teh! LOL! Yes, I love the soup, no meat for me please.

kampungboycitygal : Well, lunch at Bill's place, dinner at Wong Siong Wong perhaps?

terri : Errrrrrrrr....... :o)

wnw,
A vegetarian "bak kut teh" soup dish with the mee suah, eh? This is the first time I come across it. Tks for the post. Will try to cook it myself. The herbal chicken soup kinda look oily to me.

Wah taken with d80 makes everything looks extra delicious :b~ I don't mind going bak-less as I love the mushrooms with bkt soup more

D80, no play play~
Good pics and me another bak-less ppl for bak kut teh.haha!

wmw,
The veggie in the mee suah soup don't look like cabbage to me. Are they Chinese mustard green (chye sim)? I bought all the ingredients but I forgot about the enoki and button mushrooms (nameko mushrooms?). I thought of making it this week. I have only shiitake at the moment.

kok : Sweet? Hmmm...but the soup was nice lo.

Cynthia : Hopefully...something I have yet to get use to using.

wonda : The chic herbal soup actually not that oily, good luck with the cooking. Mmm...Choy Sum? Nolah...it's some sort of Chinese Cabbage I think!...shiitake also can use.

durianberry : Yah, me too...I love mushrooms.

Jackson : Looking to see when you are free...we all go together :o)

jojo : Aiyoh, no play play, now learning. Hehehe....Yay to another bak-less person!

teckiee : When you are no longer on call! hahaha....Bidor one, duck wor. Here chicken leh, we go try and you give your verdict loh. Here seems thicker and less oily.
