That Familiar Feeling @ Restaurant Busy Corner, Damansara Jaya

(NON-HALAL)

Restoran Busy Corner has been around for some time; I remember my first visit to this place was when I was still living and working in Kuala Lumpur. That was back in the 90s!  Fast forward a couple of decades later, it's still one of the restaurants I head to now and then again, so much so you can say that I'm a regular ... just one of those places where I can eat comfortably as I'm familiar with the place and the lady boss herself :o)

Claypot Chicken Rice
I just love the raw onions, giving Busy Corner's claypot chicken rice (RM6.50 for a small serving, RM12 for large) an added oomph!  My fave order is the original (with or without the salted fish, depending on my mood); there're lots more variety to choose from - black pepper, red bean sauce and Thai. One can also choose to have black pepper steak rice or prawn instead of chicken.

Soupy Meals @ Wong Siong Wong, Sunway Mas

UPDATED : NO LONGER IN OPERATION AS SONS RUNNING THE PLACE HAVE MIGRATED.

Wong Siong Wong Bak Kut Teh in Sunway Mas has always been a place I go to when I feel like having something soupy. Once feeling a bit under the weather and down with a cold, I dropped by this place for lunch. And what soupy food did I order?
Herbal Mee Suah
I was in a hurry to drink the soup and kinda mess up the bowl before I took a pic of it. A simple and nice soupy bowl of Bak Kut Teh Soup (without the bak "Meat" for me!)with Mee Suah (fine wheat noodle), some button & enoki mushrooms, foo chook (Beancurd Skin) and taupok (fried tofu puffs).
Herbal Chicken Drumstick
And if you're not in the mood for rice or noodles or BKT, how about some yummylicious Herbal Soup with Chicken Drumstick served in a claypot?

I had a really quick dinner tonight as I still had work to do after that. Yeah, I've been busy and have not had time to do my usual round of blog visiting. I hope to be able to catch up on some blog reading soon. Well, back to dinner, I decided to head over to Wong Siong Wong with KA since we were nearby and I was hankering for my usual Bak-less Kut Teh. You read that right... Bak-less, no meat but a pot of soup from the bak with lots of enoki and button mushrooms, cabbage, foo chook (Beancurd Skin) and taupok (fried tofu puffs). That's how I like to have my BKT as I'm not really a fan of "boiled" meat and this is one of those places that has such an order in the menu. So, no strange looks from them should you ask for the vegetarian version. At RM7.50/USD2.40 per serving, it's a pot of goodness that will surely warm you up. Additional points if taken on rainy nights :o).
Bak-less Kut Teh
By the way, this pot of Bakless Kut Teh photo was taken with my new baby, Nikon D80. It's only two days old and I still haven't finish reading the manual. I'm still learning how to take photos with it, tinkering with the unfamiliar function buttons and dials.

Chinese Traditional Herbal Soup, Cheow Yang

Feeling a bit under the weather, Lyn and I drove around Petaling Jaya looking for some soupy stuff to make me feel better. Only when we drove into Cheow Yang area did I recall a friend of mine telling me that she had tried this great soup at the Lim Mee Yoke Coffeeshop, formerly the old Cheow Yang Coffeeshop (157 Jalan SS2/6, 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor). I have not been eating here for awhile and didn't know about this stall till she told me. She asked me to look out for two huge claypots and I'll find the stall which is right in front of the shop. I didn't really know how huge the claypots were till I saw them!
With quite a variety of Chinese Traditional Herbal Soups available (RM12-18), we could only order one type as a pot is good enough for 2-3 people! We opted for the Spare Ribs, Octopus, Lotus Root and Peanut Soup (RM12).
We then saw the girl climbed onto a raised metal platform which supported the two huge claypots and reached in to take a pot of soup out with a some sort of a long contraption. As you can see from the photo, the two claypots were huge!
A much tinier claypot arrived at our table with a generous amount of soup and ingredients inside. Piping hot, both Lyn and I enjoyed drinking up the tasty soup and finished all the lotus root and all the other stuff (sharing a bowl of rice which was included with the order).
The meat was tender, the peanuts and lotus root were nice, "cooked just right, great to bite", The empty pot was a testament to how nice it was (or maybe we were both just hungry? ha ha ha....). We'll be back to try the other varieties soon....

"Good soup is one of the prime ingredients of good living. For soup can do more to lift the spirits and stimulate the appetite than any other one dish."
