Wau Penyu @ Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur

(HALAL)

It's quite a task finding a place to eat each time my work team gathers for a lunch meeting.  After our usual two hour formal meeting in the office, where we head to for our lunch discussion is always the highlight of the day! Hahaha....When restaurants started operating in Solaris Dutamas, we were glad that we now have a wider selection of venues apart from the ones in Solaris Mont Kiara itself.

Wau Penyu @ Solaris Dutamas

I had read about Wau Penyu from Cumi & Ciki's blog and the nasi tumpang there (one of my faves since I first tried it during my memorable trip to Kota Bahru back in 2007 - read about it HERE and HERE) and told the team about it and we decided to try out the food.  The team loved the setup of Wau Penyu, a restaurant (or as they label themselves "a funky kopitiam") that serves delights from the East Coast of Malaysia.  We found the place conducive for a casual meeting over food.  It delivers a rather perfect ambiance and has a lovely red corner (with all sorts of framed keris adorning the wall!) where we would "nestle" together as we went through our weekly agenda..

Wau Penyu @ Solaris Dutamas

However since we usually have our meetings on Mondays, we normally wouldn't have the chance to try their Nasi Tumpang as Wau Penyu only serves it on Fridays and Saturdays :o(  Fortunately, we found something else that is a hit with everyone.

Nasi Kerabu
Nasi Kerabu (RM15.90) - Served with sambal and budu (fish sauce) and light curry gravy, they were the perfect accompaniment to the lovely rice salad which isn't in the traditional blue colour but was savoury tasty just the same.  The chicken was tender and the slices of beef gave an extra palate pleasing touch to Wau Penyu's Nasi Kerabu.  My only gripe is that the ulam (raw vegetables) were a tad little for me, could do with a bit more healthy "crunch"though :o), but not too much till it's overwhelming of course.  Read more about Nasi Kerabu HERE (for those who would like to try cooking this, there's a recipe too).

Ikan Masin - Salted Fish

Oh, we love munching on the crispy keropok ikan (fish crackers) and especially the delicious crispy ikan masin (salted fish) too!

I have a hankering for East Coast food at times(as I'm reminded now and then about the great tasting food I had during my trip there) and am glad that Wau Penyu is place where I can get my East Coast fix :o)

Now YOU made me crave for some East Coast delights. If only there is one here in Ipoh.
Solaris Dutamas is a new area near Mont Kiara? Or entirely different?

Damn .. to seek for Solaris MK last time got me going rounds in circles.

James, time to get a GPS!

Solaris is next to Mont Kiara and sandwiched in between the government buildings at Jalan Duta and Mont Kiara.

I could munch on the East Coast crackers all day, I really could! Heading to check out Solaris Dutamas lunchtime today, the crackers may not be too far away, whee!
