Will We Ever See Tim Hortons in Malaysia?

As I write this, I'm wondering whether Tim Hortons will ever come to Malaysia. Started way back in 1964 serving just coffee and donuts in Ontario, Canada, Tim Hortons now has 3000 outlets across Canada and 600 outlets in USA. Read more about Tim Hortons HERE. While I was road tripping around Canada, I had the opportunity to try out some items of Tim Hortons. I keep seeing Tim Hortons outlets everywhere, sometimes a few of them within a distance of a kilometre or two. You just can't ignore them.

Open 24 Hours!

The outlets share a similar design and exudes a cozy ambiance (unless you go to one located at a tourist spot like the one in Clifton Hill, Niagara Falls! Busy, busy, busy!). See those large cans on the left? Those are the famous Tim Hortons Fine Grind Coffee made from Arabica beans, 1.1 kg pack going for $16.99. Is Tim Hortons coffee as good as they say?

Weng Kee & Thoo Yuen @ Taman Selera Old Town, Petaling Jaya

Actually, this post is a continuation from Pu Yuan as we headed to Taman Selera Old Town for desserts! It was another warm night and what a better way to end the night with something nice and cold? Well, that was initially our intention :o) (read on....). Arriving at around 8pm, the place was quite crowded and we were glad to find a place to sit near Weng Kee Drink Stall (look out for Stall No. 46).


Jason's favourite dessert is Ice Kacang, I suggested this place since it will be the first visit for Jason and Nivlac. Weng Kee has been around for some decades and is well known for their Ice Kacang. They do serve other variety of drinks but I only order their Ice Kacang each time I'm here though I've told myself countless time that I should try other drinks.

The ice is really fine and melts almost immediately when it's in your mouth (but this means that it melts as easily too in the bowl especially during the warm weather). I feel that because of the fine texture, the syrup/brown sugar/evaporated milk gets soaked into each and every tiny fine ice flake ... hence making this Ice Kacang so flavourful and great. Of course, there's the usual accompaniments; red beans, corn, grass jelly (cincau), cendol, peanut too (sorry, I tucked in eagerly right after I took this and forgot to take a photo of what's in it!). At Weng Kee, you can have a choice of brown sugar or syrup or a mixture of both, adding the evaporated milk to top it all off. I think I'm beginning to love Ice Kacang as much as Jason does :p

Pu Yuan @ Jalan Klang Lama, Kuala Lumpur

Just before Jason moved away, we got round to doing dinner over one weekend (with Nivlac too!).  We had to go through the usual routine of choosing a place to eat and Jason suggested Pu Yuan.  So, off we went and with the help of a GPS and we found the place (the restaurant is located off the main road and is in a rather obscure lane).  Even when we arrived at the location, we still second guessed ourselves as we didn't spot Pu Yuan's "infamous" door.  Jason got down to take a walk around the area and confirmed that we had indeed arrived at the correct place.  So, what's this about Pu Yuan's "infamous" door?

Here it is...for those Chinese illiterate, would you know that restaurant lies behind this door?  Actually, a gambling den comes to mind, hehehe...But then, I'm sure a gambling den wouldn't have a Welcome sign (well, other than Genting's) Well, since we knew beforehand, we made our way through the door... still with slight apprehension, hahahah.....

Charismatic Canada! Part Three

Let's do some sightseeing today - here are some pics while we were moving around in Ontario. Did I tell you that I love Canada, especially Quebec. :o) Each time I post up my travel pics, I feel like packing my bags and flying back to Canada (somewhere, anywhere...hmmm).
