Pan Mee @ Jalan Segambut Selatan, Kuala Lumpur

(Non-Halal)

Going through my archives, I realised this is one place I should blog about but had forgotten. Once in awhile, my friends and I will come over to this part of town just to eat the Pan Mee (Flat Flour Noodle Soup).
Kedai Kopi Dan Makanana Hoi Kee
We'll drive to this place in Jalan Segambut Selatan; Kedai Kopi Dan Makanan Hoi Kee and order from this stall...
Pan Mee Stall

Pan Mee
What I like about it is that the soup is really so flavourful. I normally order the soup version with extra "liu" (ingredients) as I love the the crispy ikan bilis (anchovies). There are two other reasons why I like eating from here too...
Pan Mee - Hand Pulled
Firstly, I like the hand pulled Pan Mee here. Somehow it's not too thin, neither do I find it too thick. There's oomph when I bite into one of these! This hand pulled variety goes best with the soup version.
Green HOT Chili Sauce
Secondly, the chili sauce here is really great. I love spicy food and all types of chili. This green chili sauce is really HOT (and I don't mean in the temperature sense, though for some it might get you perspiring like crazy!). I just love the way the chili sauce goes with the "oomph" pan mee which has such tasty soup! Eh...I don't recall being thirsty but I'm never one to complain about MSG ;o).

And after you're done in this coffee shop, head on outside and you will find a good old fashion mobile mini bakery stall.
Mobile Bakery

Mobile Bakery
Mini in size, but a bakery it still is! From all sorts of buns, tarts, muffins etc. etc., you'll find it here. This sort of Chinese small time bakery items are hardly seen nowadays and cheaper than the usual stalls. The stall owner has his own regular customers; those who like the taste of "old fashioned" buns/tarts whereas I'm sure it might not meet the standards of some other folks who have graduated from such to Bread Story bakeries... and right up to The Loaf. Well, I'm glad that some things haven't change 'cos I could do with some "old fashioned" buns at times :o).

Rejecting things because they are old fashioned would rule out the sun and the moon

Hey, my (& my daughter too) favourite pan mee place! We just love the chillie sauce as he blends it with mint leaves. Each time we have our pan mee there, we definitely must also have at least 4 glasses of sugar cane water - 2 for me and 2 for my daughter! Ya, the sauce is really hot but yet shiok! You know, even the nasi lemak is delicious except that it's pretty pricey.

Oh I much prefer my hand-pulled meen fan kuey served "dry" with sauce... Temptation at its best, especially when you crack a soft-boiled egg over it... HEAVEN. :D

The chili sauce is so Thai-style! I like my Pan Mee + an egg!

The buns! Especially the cream one with chocolate rice. I used to lick off the excess cream before biting them ^^

Lyrical L & Jun : Yalah, so nostalgic looking at them.

Jason : You're such a kid ;o)

vkeong : Get ready for the chili to kick in! If gf is new, advisable not to bring her here. Not a good impression to let her see you with a running nose! Hahahahaha...

catsndogs: Cheras, no...must go and try then!

BBO : Go and try, the chili will make it more shiok! :o)

wah, from the unassuming pics of the chilli sauce already I can guess how it tastes like. I knew I tried this type of chilli sauce somewhere. spicy and sour.
I'm salivating, over the plate of sauce, not the pan mee. =P
not a fan of pan mee anyway

Oh, this restaurant. I'll only go there if I go to the Kia Service center near there to service my car. So while waiting, I'll come here to eat. The Chinese nasi lemak also not bad here.

j2kfm : Well, like I said...the chilli sauce is one of the reasons to eat this. Maybe you'll become a fan of pan mee because of the sauce, hehehe...

Jackson : Hey there! Long time no see...yes, now need to go to Taman Sri Sentosa one to try...Precious P??? ;o)

Simon : So, which do you prefer? The nasi lemak or the pan mee? Somehow I always end up ordering pan mee.

BSG : Hahahaha....thank you for the award. I must get my speech ready next time (hope to get nominated for 2nd half 2008) :p
