Weekend Roundup - FSF, JHP, Umai Ya and Pirates

My weekend usually starts on Friday, with Sunday being a day of rest :o). I decided to do a roundup of this weekend as I met up with a number of bloggers. FYI, it's gonna be a pretty long post and with lots of photos!

Last Thursday night, I received a call from CatsnDogs to go for lunch with UnkaLeong on Friday. After picking us up only did we start thinking where we should go for lunch! Bak Kut Teh? Steamboat? Curry noodles? Beef Noodles? Luckily, the slow traffic gave us more time to make our minds up and we finally decided to head on to O & S in Paramount, PJ for some coffeeshop food. Mind you, it was not an easy task deciding and with Unkaleong giving directions to CatsnDogs to O & S. You see, I was speaking in English, Unkaleong was speaking Thai and CatsnDogs was speaking Japanese!!! So, you had a bunch of "foreigners" in a car, driving around and looking for food. It was just a crazy experience and through some good fortune and hand gestures, we made it to O&S. After chowing down our lunch of beef noodles, pork noodles, yong tau foo, chee cheong fun and popiah (fresh spring roll), we went to Digital Mall and I made some enquiries about Nikon cameras and Unkaleong & CatsnDogs went about the mall checking out gadgets and girls! Hahaha....and all these took place admist the two of them declaring their undying love for each other. LOL! It was a really crazy afternoon for me that day.

Then came Saturday where I met up with Jason, SC, Tummythoz and Phitoy for lunch at Famous Seremban Favourites for the famous Char Siew. Look out soon for Jason & Tummythoz's post on their virgin experience with this piece of meat! Hahaha...later in the afternoon, I went to Just Heavenly Pleasures' launch of their newest cake addition, Red Velvet! Of course, there were other new goodies in store since the last time I posted on their retail store launch.
Panettone
Shortbread Snowman
Shortbread Snowman
Raspberry Madeira
Raspberry Madeira, Precious Pea's fave!
Mango Upside Down
Mango Upside Down, my fave!
German Stollen
German Stollen, Teckiee loves this!

And of course, the STAR of the day, Red Velvet
Red Velvet 1

Red Velvet 2
Look at how red it is! Certainly lives up to it's Red Velvet name! I had samples of these and I simply love it since it came with the cream cheese topping!

I bought a Raspberry Madeira and a Red Velvet for Precious Pea as it was her birthday. While she was out celebrating with her hubby, Teckiee who picked me up for dinner, drove me to her place where I left the box of cakes on her house pillar! Thank goodness it didn't rain that night. Hahaha...Happy Birthday again Precious Pea! After that, Teckiee said that she was in the mood for some Japanese food and since we wanted to eat nearby we ended up at Umai Ya in Damansara Utama. I have gone to Umai Ya at The Place in Damansara Perdana before but this was my first time (Teckiee's too) dining here in Damansara Utama.
umaiya

Kani Unatama Maki
The Kani Unatama Maki (RM20/USD6 for 4 pieces) was simply delicious. The combo of soft shell crab and unagi made this such a delight to bite into!
Beef Teriyaki
Since I'm not a fan of raw food, I opted for the beef teriyaki bento set (RM28/USD8) which came with usual rice, soup, salad, appetizer, chawanmushi and fruits. It came in thin slices and I enjoyed eating this dish, dipping the beef slices into the accompanying teriyaki sauce.
Udon
Teckiee ordered the Udon Sashimi Set (RM30/USD9) which also came with the same side dishes. Teckiee said the udon soup was very tasty. I had a taste of it and it was very "mushroomy" and I liked it too since I love mushrooms :o).
Sashimi
The sashimi plate. Now, here's another reason why I don't eat raw food. Doesn't that rolled up piece in front look like a coiled snake!??? Hahaha....Sorry, I still prefer my food cooked, thank you very much!

After dinner, Teckiee said that she wanted to go Pirates for ice-cream and off we went. I told her that I'll buy her desserts as she treated me Umai Ya's dinner for my belated birthday. Furthermore, we both enjoyed listening to the live band at Pirates which comes on daily from 9 pm onwards.

Teckiee had the Rum & Raisin (Left) and I had Traffic Lights! (RM7/USD2 each).

We were later joined by UnkaLeong and his friend, Fiona and an hour later Sean, Teckiee's friend. We played card games and I learnt (I think I did anyway :p) from Fiona, who taught me the rules of Chor Tai Ti, eh...what is this card game called in English??? Later on, UnkaLeong taught us the rules for Texas Hold 'Em poker. Too much info for one night, hahaha.....We ended up doing card tricks before we called it a night. It was a day well spent..., now you know why I need Sunday to be a day of rest! Hahaha.....

Wow... what a packed weekend you had there! Makes my weekend look like I didn't do nearly enough (besides sleeping), hehe.

>> Love Red Velvet myself... cake's very light whereas the highlight is the cream cheese topping. To die for.

>> Been to Umaiya @The Place too, but the one in Uptown looks snazzier lah from your photos... must go try one day.

... and there really aren't enough days in the weekend. Which is why I'm glad tomorrow's a public holiday in Selangor --- cuti lagi! :D

Price wise, I would consider it reasonable as compared to here. I have never been served rolled sashimi in the restaurant here. Just sliced ones.

wmw said...

Kenny : Thanks for letting me know.

meiyen : You have been to JHP already or not???

Teckiee : Oh Yah! That was fun, though you and KL cheated! :p

Judy : I've been right here. Not like you leh, so super busy!

Daphne : Thanks for the compliment! You've got to try these lovely desserts one day yourself.

kusahi_keat : Hahaha...I think all floggers staying further away should get together and rent a house...and stay together. Jason, Teckiee, Kusahi_Keat, Tummythoz & Phitoy????

wonda : Maybe this is the Malaysian version, since you live in Japan and has never seen it prepared this way. Visiting Malaysia anytime soon?
